Things That Go Toaster in the Night is an episode of the third season of SpongeBob and Nicktoons: The Series.
After a series of misunderstandings, SpongeBob and the gang believe there is a ghost in Nick-Ville.
The episode begins in a late afternoon, SpongeBob, Jimmy, Timmy, B.O.B., XJ-4, Toaster, Lampy, Radio, Blanky, two robots named WALL-E and EVE are all playing on the swing. The only ones not there are Kirby, who is just watching, and Beaver, who pops out in his pajamas complaining about the noise and saying that it is too late and they should all be sleeping. Upon hearing this, Jimmy stops the swing abruptly, causing everyone else to fall, and enthusiastically states that they must go to bed early in order to wake up early in the next morning and play more. The others follow him, and when Toaster withdraws a little, Jimmy tells him that he wouldn't want to stay awake in the night anyway, as there are monsters in the village. This promptly convinces Toaster to run to his house and go to bed.
Deep in the windy night, the forest seems to be full of strange howls and shadows appearing on the windows. Toaster is scared a little and hides inside a pillow case, alleviated by the fact that now he won't be able to see the ghosts. But what if the ghosts see him? This mere thought is enough to put panic on Toaster, who runs away desperately, still inside his pillow, towards SpongeBob, Jimmy, Timmy and B.O.B.'s HQ. When SpongeBob opens the door and sees Toaster in the pillow case, he mistakes Toaster for a ghost and runs away to get help.
Meanwhile, Jimmy is also hearing lots of strange noises, and decides to go out to investigate. He discovers that the noise is being made by Kirby, who has trouble playing in the swing because he can't stay there without falling. Since the others are always playing during the day, he decided to practice at night. Jimmy decides to teach Kirby how to swing.
Back to the ghost story, SpongeBob, Timmy, B.O.B., XJ-4, Lampy, Radio, Blanky, WALL-E, EVE and Beaver have organized a ghost hunting party and are determined to catch the ghost. They run into Toaster, who tells them what happened. Since Toaster is not the ghost, B.O.B. and Beaver are convinced that there must be no ghost after all, but Toaster insists that he had heard one. They all hear Kirby screaming and are terrified, but soon head back to catch the real ghost.
Jimmy's first attempt to help Kirby consists of glueing him to the swing. When this doesn't work, Jimmy realizes the problem is not keeping Kirby on the swing, but keeping him from falling on the ground, so he decides to build an improvised parachute for Kirby. This actually works: when Kirby is thrown out of the swing, he opens the parachute and his figure is mistaken by a ghost by SpongeBob and the gang when they arrive. But Jimmy, confused by their attitude, explains that there is no ghost, just a vaccuum cleaner swinging in a parachute. He then realizes that Kirby IS swinging, as the parachute moves with the wind, and congratulates Kirby for his success. As the sun shows up, they all join Kirby for a ride in his parachute.
